Burgie Crandall's Let's Dance Band
3416 NE 22nd Avenue
Portland, OR 97202
(503) 281-7007
The crowd can see that Burgie loves the music when he swings to the beat. He cues the crowd to sing "Hey! BA-BA-RE-BOP". He brings the crowd to their feet as he makes them believe that they can dance even if they don't know it yet. It culminates in thrilling applause when the trombones, trumpets, drums and bass make your heart change it's beat as the wonderful sounds fill the hall. For a moment you think, "I could sing with that band maybe, someday", or "if I had only continued playing my saxophone". All your troubles evaporate and you are swept up in the beautiful rhythms, melodies and harmonies. Lives are uplifted because musicians have kept their dreams alive and devoted their lives to good dance music.
Burgie is a true professional. Afterwards, he says he loves the music and enjoys sharing his talent with the public. The rewards come when someone comes up to him during and after the performance and says, "I love your music", or "please play my favorite 'In the Mood', 'cause nobody does it

Blues, ballads and bop share the groove with Latin, Asian, and European influences coming from his travels to over 30 countries and cultural immersion in several of them. Eugene, OR 97440

I am primarily an improviser with my instrument being the piano. Of course, I do play jazz standards - ballads, bop, modal - but my main interest is in free jazz.
The free jazz I play though is not generated from angst or anger so its not as wild as Sun Ra or Ornette. My free improvisation comes from a calmer place, and I like to make harmonically unique but still welcoming music.
I\'ve played with most of the musicians in the Eugene scene, in standard trios and quartets, as well as backing up vocalists. I\'ve also led two trios - one a Latin (Jobim) group, and the John Crider Free Jazz Project. I am currently backing vocalist Lori Fletcher and playing in the Latin group Ritmo de la Noche, in addition to solo piano work.
In addition to standard jazz forms, I\'m interested in using improvised music for healing (toning, thanatology). I play in the lobby of the local hospital once a week, bringing a peaceful atmosphere to a sometimes chaotic space.

TIM DuROCHE is a jazz drummer, conceptual artist, curator, and freelance writer living in Portland, Oregon. Over the last decade he\\\'s played all forms of jazz from dixieland and grindhouse to swing, bop and beyond. As comfortable with a pair of brushes and a snare playing jazz standards, as with wind-up toys, gongs, sawblades, water, sand, and other sonic extended techniques—DuRoche has created performances with Beijing Opera musicians, Russian circus clowns, silent film, dance, spoken word, and with installation-performance artists. He began his career as musician in Minneapolis in the mid-1980s, with a grounding in traditional and modern jazz with occasional forays into ethnic folk, and other blues-based-improvisational idioms. For many years, he performed solely with a minimal combination of snare-hihat-brushes—developing a singular, trademark approach to sound, rhythm, swing, and space—and working both sides of the jazz continuum, from ragtime to no time.
