He is currently performing and teaching in Portland, OR. David’s musical education began at Mt. Hood Community College where he studied with Hal Malcolm, Larry Zgonc and the late Larry McVey. It was there that his pursuit of Jazz began, logging countless hours of practicing and listening to Jazz records and the old KMHD. He went on to earn his Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance and Music Theory from the University of Oregon School of Music, studying percussion with Charles Dowd and theory with Dr. Robert Hurwitz. David now enjoys teaching music theory and aural skills at Portland Community College. A composer of modern chamber music, Mr. Burrow’s compositions have premiered at the Peabody Conservatory, Seattle’s Bumbershoot festival, and Eugene’s Beall Hall and Dougherty Dance Theatre. He is the artistic director and co-founder of the AupChip Percussion Ensemble which performs and records chamber music without common limits. He has also accompanied master classes and performed with numerous choreographers including Bill T. Jones, David Parsons and the Alvin Ailey Co. David currently performs and records with the Bret Malmquist Trio, Coastal Steamer, Island Breeze, and his own group Bobblehead.
