FROM THIS MOMENT ON July 1 is a few weeks away, and we will be celebrating what for JSO is a new year, both for our taxes and for our new board and officers. We had elections last month and the new board is already hard at work. After two and a half years as your president, I campaigned hard for the position of past-president. Despite my best efforts, the board elected me to serve one more year. The good news, though, is the election of our other officers: vice-presidents Margie Smith and Larry Reichman; secretary Mary Bunn; and staying on to manage our finances the dynamic duo of Claire Little and Pat Auxier. I'm excited about our new board members! Elected at the annual meeting were Gayle Tokumoto, Bill Zingraf, Eric Weber and Bev Richenstein. All four are diving in - generating exciting new projects and volunteering for our upcoming events. Our board members not only attend meetings, they work hard for your organization between meetings, and I hope you'll be volunteering to give them some help. The New Year also brings some changes for JSO. You've noticed the new look on the cover of this month's Jazzscene. It incorporates our new logo, developed by volunteer graphics guru Nancy Barker, of Expresso DTP (503-674-5053). Thanks, Nancy! In addition to Jazzscene, you'll see the new logo incorporated in everything we do, including our merchandise. And speaking of merchandise, another new look you'll see on the sleeves of our new shirts is the logo of our newest corporate sponsor, AAA. Thanks to the effort of board member Bill Zingraf, AAA has paid the cost of the next production of JSO merchandise. We're pleased and proud to have their support! The festival season is upon us. You'll see us at the Rose Festival Big Band event at the Schnitzer, Cathedral Park, the Mt Hood Jazz Festival, the Tom Grant/Ron Steen presentation on Hayden Island (don't miss this one!) and the Jazz at Newport Festival in September. Great opportunities to hear the best in live jazz this summer! As co-sponsors of these events we have a table at each one, and those volunteering get free admission. Contact me if you'd like to join us!
