INTERMISSION RIFF

For those very few souls who haven't been on the JSO website lately - check it out!  We have a new feature called Clubscene that's well worth reading. 

It's the brainchild of two JSO stalwarts, Jim Corcoran and past president Steve Kullowatz.  They've organized an ever expanding group of reviewers to visit the local clubs and write reviews of the music, atmosphere and food. Soon we'll be having excerpts in Jazzscene. In addition to reviews you'll also find some rather good poetry (see In A Sentimental Mood in the reviews of Alexander's.)  You'll find Clubscene here.

Here's a taste, part of a review of Darrell Grant at LV's Uptown last month:

"LV's Uptown is located at SW 3rd and Lincoln, and offers the double bonus of no cover and no smoking, plus FREE PARKING. The atmosphere is comfortable, service helpful and friendly, crowd fairly knowledgeable and appreciative, and a good vibe all around. LV's also kicks off a bit earlier than most clubs, with gigs commencing at 7:00 p.m. and going til 10:00 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays."

Speaking of LV's is a great segue into our May meeting! Our hard-working board meets once a month at Wilf's, the third Tuesday of each month - except May.

Once a year we hold our Annual Membership Meeting for the purpose of electing new board members and new officers.  This year we will have three new people joining the board.  The meeting will be held at LV's Uptown, Tuesday, May 16.  For those wanting dinner, there's food available in the restaurant.  Our meeting will start at 6pm.

We're planning on live music, and the meeting itself will be short so that after a brief intermission we'll have time to listen, enjoy, and get together with friends both old and new.
