“First
Jazz” is THE
main fundraising event of
2008 for the Jazz Society of Oregon.
In the afternoon, we
will hear the Whiskey Hill Youth Band from Canby, Oregon,
followed by Red Holloway. Known for his
partnerships with Sonny Stitt and Clark
Terry, Red has played with virtually every major jazz
musician of the last sixty years. He's toured with Stitt,
Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel
Hampton and for three years with "Brother" Jack McDuff and
George Benson. Red is a mainstream player with roots in the
blues, having played with Billie
Holiday, BB King, Aretha
Franklin and Joe Williams. The jazz community in
our area last saw him at Cathedral
Park - and those who were there will welcome him
back to a long overdue encore performance! In addition to his set, Red
will also sit in with the Whiskey Hill band.
In the evening, we
will be celebrating the amazing contributions of Darrell Grant as a
jazz
educator and performer by inducting him into the Jazz Society of
Oregon's Hall of Fame. This will be followed by a performance
by the award winning saxophonist, Eric Alexander.
Please
join us for our First Jazz celebration for 2008. We need your support.
Our preference is that
you will join us at First Jazz and
share in the performances we have planned. If you are unable to do so,
please
consider supporting this fundraising effort with a donation on-line or by mail to:
Jazz Society of Oregon,
P.O. Box 19882,

Your
support of the Jazz Society is appreciated enormously.
