(Last Update 01/10/2016)

By submitting your application to the JSO/PJSF Amateur Jazz Vocal Competition (“Competition”), you agree to all of the following Terms and Conditions between yourself and the Jazz Society of Oregon (“JSO”) and the Portland Jazz Singers Foundation (“PJSF”). “Applicant” means any person submitting this application to the JSO/PJSF.  “Competitor” means any Applicant selected to compete in the Competition. References to “we” means the JSO/PJSF and references to “you” means the Applicant and, if selected, the Competitor.

1. Selection. The JSO/PJSF will organize a committee (“Selection Committee”) to select the finalists based upon each Applicant’s submission materials in the Selection Committee’s sole discretion. The Selection Committee will make its selection of the Competitors and back-up Competitors by February 1st. The Selection Committee will notify all Applicants if they are selected to compete or not.

2. Amateur Status. The Competition is open to amateur vocalists only. Rather than include a precise definition of “amateur” status, the Selection Committee will, in its sole discretion, determine each Applicant’s eligibility on a case-by-case basis. The Selection Committee will take into consideration each Applicant’s musical history, their past paid performances, notoriety, and may provide follow up inquiries to any Applicant we feel is not clearly an amateur for clarification. By submitting your application materials to the JSO/PJSF for this Competition you represent that you are not a professional working musician.

3. Entry Fee. All Applicants must provide an entry fee of $25 through PayPal or by check in order to be considered for the Competition.

4. Headshot. All Applicants must submit, along with their completed Application an accompanying headshot (in JPEG, GIF, or PDF).

5. Music Submissions. All Applicants must submit, along with their completed Application, audio recordings of their performance of two jazz songs, both a ballad and an up tempo piece (in .mp3, .mp4, or .wav format), in two separate files, with each file not exceeding 25 MB. Each file name must include the Applicant’s name and the song title.

6. Competition. The Competition will take place at Vie de Boheme 1530 S.E. 7th Street Portland, OR 97214, on Sunday, February 7th 2016 beginning at 6:00 pm and ending at 9:00pm pm. Each Competitor’s performance time will be scheduled in advance and the JSO/PJSF will notify the Competitor of their performance time at the time of selection. Each Competitor is solely responsible for being at the Competition for their scheduled performance.

7. Musical Charts. All selected Competitors must provide their own musical charts for each song in the key of their choosing to the Selection Committee no later than February 1st.

8. Rehearsals. Competitors will be allotted approximately 10 minutes for rehearsal time prior to the competition, between 3:30PM and 5:00PM, on February 7th, with the Blue Prints Trio. Competitors will be notified of their scheduled rehearsal time at the time of selection. It is up to each Competitor to make arrangements with the Committee if they are unavailable for their scheduled rehearsal time.

9. Release. Subject to these Terms and Conditions, the Applicant hereby grants to the Jazz Society of Oregon and The Portland Jazz Singers Foundation, a nonexclusive, perpetual, royalty-free, fully paid, irrevocable, and worldwide license to use, reproduce, distribute, modify, have modified, create, and have created derivative works from, transfer or sublicense to others and otherwise directly and indirectly exploit the Applicant’s name, likeness, and all materials submitted with the Application, for use in the JSO’s/PJSF’s sole discretion to promote or market any and all JSO/PJSF events, including without limitation any performances by the Applicant in the Competition.

10. Indemnification. The Applicant hereby releases and forever discharges the JSO/PJSF, and its agents, successors, and assigns, and agrees to hold them harmless from and against any and all claims, demands, causes of action, damages, losses, rights, liabilities, attorney fees, costs, torts, suits, at law or in equity, or otherwise, whether direct or indirect, known or unknown, of whatsoever nature, arising out of or based in whole or in part upon any agreements, facts, acts, omissions, conducts, claims, events, causes, or matters of any kind occurring or existing at any time on or before the date of this Application and its Terms and Conditions and arising out of or in connection with this Application, its Terms and Conditions, the JSO/PJSF Amateur Vocal Competition or other related JSO/PJSF activities.

The winner is responsible for being available for performance at the JSO Hall of Fame concert and no rescheduling is guaranteed if the winner has a conflicting schedule.
