Jazz Society of Oregon Committees

The Jazz Society of Oregon is an all volunteer organization with a working Board of Directors. As we work on projects that lead toward accomplishing our overall goals, a coordinating Director notifies each committee of tasks needed to complete the project.

If you have an interest in helping on any committee, please contact the Director listed for that committee. When a task needs to be done by the committee, you will be contacted to see if you are able to help at that time.

Executive Committee

contact: Bill Powers

The Executive Committee is comprised of the elected officers of the society and the ex-president. It is charged with the oversight of Jazzscene and the website, budgeting, and coordination of the JSO Committees.

Development Committee

contact: Chuck Carpenter

The Development Committee is the group that will be seeking sponsors, donations and grants to further the work of the society. A focus this year is on outreach to communities outside of the Portland area with musicians putting on assemblies in schools, working with school performing groups and presenting performances. We're lookin for grants in the $5,000 - $10,000 range for this very valuable effort.

Membership Relations Committee

contact: Jolie Jordan

The Membership Relations Committee maximizes the potential support and participation of our membership in furthering the vision of JSO. They work to increase the membership in the organization and to find ways to make being a member worthwhile

Education Committee

contact: Pam Jones

The Education committee is a key group that has as its charge to nurture the growth of jazz in schools, both in audience development and in support for student jazz performance. This committee works closely with the Portland Jazz Festival in their education outreach, and provides scholarships for talented young musicians.

Promotion, Events and Media Committee

contact: Gayle Tokumoto

The Promotion, Events and Media Committee is the visible JSO in the community. These are the folks who sell the merchandise at festivals, publicize the organization, and bring in new members at the events. They do a lot of work in the summer, and many are needed to share in the fun.

Club Liaison and Musician Committee

contact: Eric Weber

The Club Liaison and Musician Committee fosters live jazz performance other than in concert/festival settings. This group coordinates with the Clubscene editor and writers, provides links between JSO and musicians, publicizes local jazz performances, and is developing a plan for increasing audiences in our local venues.
